The Loyola College students union is responsibly promoting and developing the talents of all the students in the college. It undertakes this earnest role by understanding its representative nature by organizing various educative, creative and cultural programmes. Focus of the College Union is on creation of awareness programmes and competitions for the holistic development of the student Community. Eextention and development activities such as medical camps are taken up by the Union in addition to inhouse programmes under the guidance of the College Union Advisor. From time to time Union identify and plan days of importance in addition to contemporary socio-political developments in the state and the country where it takes the role of organising activities in the college with the complete participation of student community. Following office bearers will be elected as per the University Notification of Elections to be conducted by the Principal by appointing a faculty member as the presiding officer. On the occasion of college day, Union members will join a tea party with the chief guest in the Principal ‘s chamber prior to the formal programme .to be attended by the Manager and Rector, Principal, Vice Principal and the Union Advisor. College Day of the college will be presided over by the College Union Chairman as traditional practice where the College Union general secretary reads the Union report.
Oath of Office & Inauguration of College Union
College organise Oath Taking Ceremony for newly nominated or elected Student Union at the Sutter Hall in the College. On this occasion a prominent writer or social activist or any other recognized person may be invited by the College Union in consultation with the Union Advisor and with the consent of the Principal as chief guest. The College Manager (Rev. Father) will be presiding over the oath taking ceremony. The program will start with the college prayer. Student Union In charge/ College Union Advisor will deliver a welcome speech and read names of all the newly elected Union representatives. With a formal note to the office bearers about their responsibility to always maintain the dignity of the college and to work for the betterment of the students as well as the college, Oath of Office presecribed by the Lingdoh Committee will be administered. Then all newly nominated office bearers, Chairman, Vice Vice Chairman, and General Secretary and other representatives will occupy the seatrs assigned to them on the stage. Chief guest will inaugurate the union and deliver inaugural address.There will be Manager’s remark on this occasion. Principal will congratulate the new office bearers subsequently and will specify on the moral responsibility to deliver duty of each and every office bearer of the Union. College Union Chairman’s address will be the attraction of this occasion.
Arts day
Loyola college has the tradition of promoting wide range of art genres including music, dance, film, fine arts, literature, poetry etc. It solely understood as an essential part of Jesuit formation initiative where students get animated to express through the talents they have. Generally it is focused on visual arts or performing arts when organized under Arts festivals or Annual Arts day; which may feature a mixed program that include music, theatre, comedy, entertainment items that disseminate social science, or street theatre, and are typically presented in venues on a working day. Each event within the program is usually decided by the College Union Arts Secretary in the presence of the College Union Advisor, and Faculty Arts Advisor.
Available PG students are grouped into four teams in a public formal meeting to be attended by all the students and teachers. Team will be formulated in an objective democratic manner with the help of team captain and vice captains nominated by the student forum. Muster roll will be presented to all the Captains in the presence of the College Union Advisor and Faculty Arts Advisor, Teams will be directed to choose names to their teams and they will be known by that name during the conduct of competitions and till the announcement of results. Arts festival is largely curated by a four member functional committee nominated by the College Union. Members so nominated will handle the organization of Arts Day and will not be allowed to participate in the events. Our college attempts to make arts festivals distinctive from other colleges by ensuring presence of each and every student of the college on stage for at least one event or the other, which typically help students’ overcome their stage freight beyond their actual interest in Visual Arts or theatre. Kalaprathibha and Kalathilakam are selected and awarded prizes for a boy securing highest points and a girl respective.Along with talent development, arts fest or arts day creates togetherness and fellowship among students and teachers on campus.

Sports Day is organized under the auspice of College Union every year where sports events are planned and staged with the total participation of our college. This is a platform made available in which people participate in competitive sporting activities. Available PG students are grouped into four teams in a public formal meeting to be attended by all the students and teachers. The team will be formulated in an objective democratic manner with the help of team captain and vice-captains nominated by the student forum. Muster roll will be presented to all the Captains in the presence of the College Union Advisor, Sports Secretary, and Faculty Sports Advisor. Captains are given space to call their choice based on the merit of the candidates so as to form four equally competent teams. Based on a lucky draw, teams will be then assigned to captains to ensure fair competition and sportsmanship. Students often take part in sports with the spirit of participation and jubilation more than the sheer aim of winning trophies or prizes. We stage many sports events during the morning and evening hours prior to and after regular working hours, where a whole day’s fest in which students participate in the athletic sporting events usually held on a Saturday.
Planning Forum
The literary competitions for the ‘students of Loyola College are assuming significance after the publication of college Magazine every year as many talented writers were identified during the competitions organized by the planning forum gets published here. Writing competition is conducted for picking talented college students who are skilled in writing essays, stories and poems in addition to cartooning pencil sketching and painting. Photography and collage also assumed importance under planning forum post-2015. Planning and scheduling of events will be carried out in the presence of the College Union Advisor, Planning Forum Secretary, and Planning Forum Faculty Advisor. Students belong to different teams identified for Arts and Sports festivals of the college will contest and secure prizes. Competitions are held in the morning and evening hours without affecting the regular academic schedules. Evaluation of creative events will be done with the help of external experts by the Faculty advisor and prizes will be distributed on a special vocation so planned by the college Union prior to College Day.
