About the Department

The four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) in Social Work was launched in the year 2025. The Loyola College of Social Sciences is a pioneering educational institution in the field of Social Work and has offered a Master’s degree in Social Work since 1964. The FYUGP holds similar social work values and ethos which is “Student centric and Outcome based”. The present syllabus is based on the directives under the New Education Policy 2020 and the curriculum frame work and regulations 2024, University of Kerala.

The FYUGP provides holistic and multidisciplinary education experience in addition to a focus on the chosen major and minors as per the choices of the student resulting in multiple pathways for learning.  The Department offers a comprehensive academic environment that blends premium education, rigorous field-based training, and a consistent research orientation. Students are encouraged to critically engage with theory, develop strong practice-based competencies, and explore innovative approaches to social challenges. The curriculum is designed not only to strengthen professional knowledge but also to nurture essential values such as empathy, inclusivity, and social justice.

Through its commitment to excellence, the Department aspires to shape its graduates into competent, reflective, and promising social workers, capable of responding to complex human needs and contributing meaningfully to the creation of a more equitable and just society.
