Loyola Academy for Career Enhancement (LACE)

Loyola Academy for Career Enhancement (LACE) is one of the initiatives of Loyola College to equip the young minds to cope with the competitive world both in curricular and co-curricular endeavours. It is a complementary academic programme, in realizing the pressing need of the hour wherein the students are trained and strengthened to face for the emerging national and global competitive job market. Peer learning and Flipped learning are the unique methods that will be used in preparing the students for competitive examinations such as;

  • UGC-NET/JRF
  • SET
  • UPSC
  • KPSC
  • SSC

Orientation and tutorial classes by experts in the respective fields are organised for the benefit of the students. This would encourage and equip the students with the required competitive edge which includes interaction with experts, discussions, and sharing of learning materials. This is also linked to the “Career Resource Corner” where career advancement materials especially for the competitive examinations are available and also updates the students with recent job opportunities.

 
  • Expose the students to the world of competitive exams (National & Global)
  • Establish a students’ study circle to facilitate and enrich the learning process for different competitive exams
  • Equip the students to be competent enough to explore job opportunities in the global world.

Introduction ASAP, Kerala.

LACE organised an induction cum orientation programme on 27th October to form ASAP cell in Loyola College of Social Sciences. Dr. Saji P Jacob, Principal, Loyola college of social sciences said the welcome address. Two resource persons from ASAP namely, Rishu Abraham, ASAP Programme manager and Sarin S Panikkar, ASAP Programme Manager first introduced ASAP and its activities, certificate courses etc. Sarin S Panikkar, gave an introduction about the ASAP and also talked about the Employability Survey Test. Rishu Abraham, ASAP Programme manager gave further details about test which included its benefits, how to do it etc.

Andrew Michael, Dept. of Sociology was selected as the faculty-in-charge of ASAP cell. As a part of making the process of ASAP cell in an organised manner, five representatives from each department were selected; Aleena, Ma sociology, Rejitha, MSW, Brijith, MSW DM, Augustine, MAHRM, Agra, MSc. Counselling Psychology.

 

Aptitude Test

LACE organised a session on how to prepare for Aptitude Test. Mr. Abdul Khadar, an expert from unacadamy, Chennai was invited as the resource person. The session was done in a blended mode wherein the resource person was connected through zoom and the participants were gathered in Sutter Hall for video conference session. Those students who were not physically present, attended online. He gave practical examples and the entire session was guided in very engaging manner. A quiz was also conducted as part of it and the students participated actively. Mr Abdul Khadar was kind enough to patiently explain the solutions to easily crack such patterns and also keep up with the limited time available. A sense of healthy competition was also noticed among the peers.

Loyola Academy for Carrer Enhancement LACE, organised a quiz based on the syllabus of UGC-NET-Paper 1. The quiz was conducted on 1st October 2021 through google form. The quiz was created by Divyaunni, 1 year Ma Sociology under the guidance of Andrew Michael, faculty-in-charge. 25 students from the college participated in the quiz.

As UGC-NET exam was fast approaching, LACE organised a practice session as a preparation for UGC-NET examination. Prof. Andrew Michael, LACE coordinator, handled the session and gave a few practical tips. It was also decided to conduct everyday quiz so as to prepare for the exam. And google classrooms were created for each department and the students were asked to join to take up the quiz. The study materials were also posted. Making classroom, made the students to be more focused in the examination and to study in an organised manner. He also discussed about a two-week study plan for NET exam.

LACE organised a webinar in collaboration with Sheshan’s Academy on the topic ” What after college Re-inventing your career at the times of corona virus”. The session was conducted online platform-zoom. The eminent speaker for the day was SUNIL GEORGE IP & TAFS (Indian Postal Service).

Ms Lekshmi from Sheshan’s Academy welcomed the participants and introduced the speaker. It was an interesting and insightful session and the participants were motivated further to take up such competitive exams. It was a valuable and fruitful session. The presidential address was done by Saji P Jacob Principal.

Orientation to UGC-NET Exam

LACE conducted an orientation programme on how to approach UGC-NET exam. Fr. Saji S J and Andrew Michel jointly presented the question patterns and how to approach them. The students were encouraged to take up the forth coming NET exam and all were asked to apply for the forth coming NET exam.

 

 

Orientation to Civil Service

LACE organised a session with Dr. N.M.Babu, Director, MasterMind, IAS Academy to familiarise the students with various competitive exams and how to prepare for it and the availability of sources. The students actively participated and asked lots of clarifications after his presentation. It a was good programme and the participants felt it fruitful.

Introduction to Lace (Loyola Academy for career Enhancement) For the first-year students was given at the Sutter hall on January 29, 20 (Friday) at 1 pm. The students from various department participated for the same.

Mr Andrew Michel, Assistant Professor of department of sociology gave an Introduction about LACE and the activities that will be conducted under the club.

In addition, Dr Sunil Kumar, Librarian, gave an outline about all resources that are available at the library for preparing for competitive examination and how all can crack various examinations.

At the end of the session, representatives from each department were selected namely, Divya unni (Sociology), Aysha Areeba (Conselling Psychology),  Heera (Social Work) and Sneha (Disaster management) respectively.

It was decided to have LACE programme twice in a month.

A lecture on Indian Constitution

First session of LACE began with a short lecture on Indian constitution on 29th August, 2019. The session was moderated by Anju K S (First year M. A. Sociology). An introduction on Indian Constitution and its basic features were discussed in the session. It was held at J.M. hall from 1:20 pm- 2:10 pm.

A lecture on Indian Constitution ( Continuation)

Continuation of previous lecture on Indian constitution was held at J.M. hall on 5th August 2019. The session was taken by Femi (2nd year M.A. Sociology). The speaker covered the history of the Indian constitution, its characteristics and the main Articles of our constitution.

 NET Orientation

On 28th November 2019, LACE in collaboration with the Sociology Department has organized an Orientation class on UGC-NET/JRF. The three students of the department who had cleared Net in 2019 namely, Femi, Arunima and Niranjana were the speakers of the session. They elaborated the preparations they had done for the examination and introduced various applications as well as learning materials.

  Indian Constitution and Legal System

A detailed session on the Indian constitution was held on 2nd December 2019 at Sutter Hall. The session was taken by Adv. Jayprakash Narayan (first-year M.A. Psychology). The main focus of discussion was the Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles of State Policy. During the discussion part, the legal system in relation to fundamental rights was explained.

Civil Service Orientation Class

A Civil Service orientation class was arranged on 17th January 2019 at Sutter Hall from 1:20 pm- 2:20 pm. The program was organized in collaboration with the Lords IAS Academy, Trivandrum. The director of the academy Mr.Anandu V S was the main speaker for the session. Also, the representatives from Lords IAS Academy interacted with the students.  The class was entirely different from the usual orientation class. It tried to break the stereotype of civil Service preparations which was followed for many years.  The speaker presented an alternate way of civil service preparation.

 Quiz Competition in commemoration of Republic Day

As part of the commemoration of Republic day, LACE in collaboration with the college union had organized a quiz competition. The competition was conducted on 22nd January 2020. The topic related to the quiz was ‘Indian Constitution, national symbols and Identity’. Mr. Jithu Jhoncy, Student- First year M.A. Sociology, was the quiz master. Around 30 students participated in the quiz.
