Loyola Initiative for Language Advancement(LILA)

This meticulously designed comprehensive English language proficiency enhancement course focuses on listening, speaking, and reading and writing methodology, came to existence in 2013. Loyola College of Social Sciences started such a practice-based participative training programme in English, by recognizing students getting admitted to the college from a wide spectrum of socio economic and academic backgrounds. LILA enables the students to communicate their views, ideas and perspectives convincingly. It also aims at the systematic linguistic development of students. The course is envisaged to be a practical-oriented, activity-based, recreational, modern technology-assisted one.

  1. All the students are provided orientation at the time of induction on LILA by one of the faculty in-charge.
  2. Those students who volunteer to attend the LILA sessions will be administered an entry-level assessment test and admitted.
  3. HODs of every department will be requested after the first internal assessment examination to induct slow learners found to have faced difficulty with English language.
  4. An attendance book is maintained to ensure participation. Two student in-charges are selected by the LILA group for the effective conduct of the programme.

  • LILA Curriculum
    • Functional Structures include, Tense Structures, Sentence Structures, Clause Structures, Active and Passive Voices, Reported Speech Yes or No Questions.
    • Functional Components include Parts of Speech, List of Irregular Verbs, Grammatical Persons, Forms of Main Verbs, Tense- Usages, Pronouns, Uses of Articles, Prepositions, Question Tag, Subject-Verb agreement.
    • Functional Skills include The Art of pronounciation, (Phonetic symbols, accent and intonation), The Art of Reading, The Art of Effective Listening, The Art of Public Speaking, Voice Culture (tongue twisters), and Memory Lesson, Polite Expressions, and Word power.
