Continuing Education FIELD
Ms. Anna George student of 2020 batch took initiative in Puthukurichi in course of her field practise on promoting literacy among Women in Coastal Trivandrum by collaborating with State Literacy Mission. The initiative was documented by UNESCO and aired in Paris on World Literacy Day. (Only one from India)

Honouring Students Who Took Part in Flood Relief Activities
Five students from Loyola College- Ananthu BL, Jomes Thekkemury, Aarsha, Varsha and Anna Elias took part in flood relief activities during Kerala Floods of 2019. They collaborated with KSRTC and initiated to send several kits having all needed materials. The team visited tribal colonies and identified most needy to distribute kits. Those areas were not reached by government authorities or local NGO’s.
The group was honored by SALT on 25-09-2019. They shared experiences in Wayanad and displayed various photos and video graphs that showed the intensity of the destruction and suffering of survivors. Mementos were given to team members and were appreciated on their effort to take initiative towards social betterment and spread the message of social service throughout the land. It was a very touching experience for each one of them as they had opportunity to see flood-affected areas and to understand on consequences of these floods on life of people.

Workshop on Disaster Preparedness
SALT organized a workshop on disaster preparedness in collaboration with Fire Force and Kerala State Disaster management authority on 14-10-2019. It was conducted in two sessions where first one was handled by authorities from fire force. He dealt on disaster preparedness and how to use fire extinguishers in emergency. Basic security measures were discussed. The second session was handled by Mr. Krishnakumar who talked on various forms of disasters, its prevalence, and its occurrence.

Workshop on Sex & Sexuality
SALT organised a workshop on Sex and Sexuality and AIDS in collaboration with Kerala Aids Control Society. Dr. S K Harikumar, member of KACS and CEO of Centre for advanced research in health and human behavior, and Mrs. Balamanju were the resource persons. The workshop was held on 09-12-2019. Topics discussed included basics of HIV and AIDS, its prevalence, methods to control, the 90-90-90 target, concept of sex and sexuality. In a social science college with students to work among people and community, the topic had immense relevance. Prevention of HIV spreading and eradicating stigma were identified as main targets.

Dance Movement Therapy
Department of social work, Loyola college organised a Dance Movement therapy conducted by Ms. Laura Lopez, a specialist in field from Spain. The therapy session was conducted within several groups among students and in an NGO ‘Chilla’ working for children of sex workers.
The theory part of dance movement and its form as a therapy was explained to the group. They also got idea on what is the basis for this therapy and how to apply it in the field.

Street Play in Collaboration with Childline on International Girl Child Day
First-year MSW students of LCSS performed a street play on International Girl Child Day in association with Childline Thiruvananthapuram.

Live-In-Experience
From 3-11-2019 to 09-11-2019, students of the 3rd semester MSW had their first exposure to specializations. The medical and psychiatry team visited Max Minds Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center in Kannur accompanied by Ms. Vandana Suresh and the CD team had exposure to Sumana, society for rural development with Fr. Sabu as accompanying faculty. MPSW team got exposed to psychiatric settings with increased awareness on various psychiatric disorders, functioning of such organisation, role of social worker, case history assessment and Mental Status Examination. Classes were organised for them on CBT, Personality Disorders, Case assessment etc. students also got chance to attend psychoeducation classes, remedial classes and ADS, CDS classes. they along with other interns from various college organised a street play and flash mob on suicide prevention among children and conducted awareness classes in govt. school Payyanur for students. The exposure helped students to gain complete awareness on a psychiatric setting.
CD students had their field in Sumana Organisation in Mysore. They visited various rural settings and interacted with SHG’s under Sumana. Mysore was selected as it had a typical village life. Kudumbasree Units, Panchayath office etc were visited. Through the visit students were able to understand village life, Development in area, to compare with Kerala, the influence of political party in rural area, role of NGO’s in rural community development and role social workers can play in such settings.

Esaf Survey for Liveable Cities
The Department of social work of LCSS took part in a Survey conducted by ESAF in promoting Non-Motorized transportation-pedestrian and cycling friendly streets. Students got an orientation on 26-12-2019 given by Mr. Dipin Panickar. A new tool called KOBO connect was introduced to the group. Rather than using papers, information was gathered through it. In a group of two, students visited around 12 places. They visited play grounds, parks, market, roads and various junctions. Photos of it were sent in group. This was first phase, second phase was pedestrian count done in 3 working days and 2 weekends where the group had to count total count of pedestrians passing a particular road. Selected sites were Thampanoor, East Fort, Statue, Kazhakootam, Sreekaryam, Medical College and Peroorkad. It was tally marked and reports were sent to head office. Student found KOBO tool as interesting and a good initiative to reduce wastage of paper. They also had to do house visits and visit to various fields everyday. Students did their works with utmost sincerity and dedication.

KAPS Students Conference
Two students from Loyola college participated in Fourth Kerala Social work students congress organised by KAPS and Assumption College Changanassery on 6th December 2019. Theme chosen was Engaging Communities to Sustainability Through Social Work Partnership. Students from all Social work Colleges made representation and various sessions and events were conducted based on the theme. Ms. Anna George and Ms. Dona Maria Kuriakose presented their findings on survey based on ‘Efficacy of Panchayath Jagratha Samithi’ and provided suggestions to improve Jagrathasamithi Functioning. They also secured second prize for Photography competition.

Life Skill Training At Poovar Loyola Institute
Students of 1st year MSW conducted a life-skill training session for students at Loyola Institute of Commerce, Poovar on 14 January 2020. A group of 26 students divided themselves and handled various life skills in an activity-oriented mode. Students enjoyed the session and provided positive feedbacks, it provided a platform for students to become confident trainers.

Samanwaya – BCM College
Loyola won overall championship trophy for 17th Samanwaya, the International conference and Intercollegiate fest organised by Department of Social Work, BCM College with the theme: Child Abuse- A revisit to family problematic and interventions. The fest was held on 24 and 25 January 2020. Loyola was adjudged the winner at Samanwaya with 136 points and second and third prizes were deservingly fought and won by Mar Gregarios College and Christian College, Kodaikanal. Loyola had a dream run at Samanwaya winning with securing first for poster presentation, project proposal, extempore, documentary and second for Street play and Debate.

Students of first-year MSW took part in Zohar student’s meet organised by Don Bosco College Sulthan Bathery on 31 January and 1 February 2020. Loyola emerged as overall champions for the fest securing various prizes for Street play, Theme Dance and Paper presentation.

Overall Champions at ‘Berch-Umanitario’ in SB College
Four students Ms. Anna George, Ms. Anju Cerin, Ms. Grace M Leghu, and Ms. Divya took part in an intercollegiate social work student fest hosted by SB College Changanassery. The group secured firs prize for Project Proposal and went into the final round of Debate competition. Loyola came out with Runners up Trophy for the fest.

Life Skill Training at Inspire Camp
Students of first-year MSW took initiative for conducting a life-skill training session in Inspire Camp organised by Government Engineering College Bottomhill., Thiruvananthapuram. Participants were those residing in various children’s home and students of selected schools. It was a residential camp conducted at LES hall.

AGNEYA- St.Gregorious College of Social Sciences
A group of 9 students took part in the National conference on ‘Suicide prevention among youth’ organised by St. Gregorious College of Social Sciences, Parumala in association with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) on 6 March 2020. A total of five research paper presentation were done by loyolites. Ms. Grace M Leghu got first prize for Extempore competition and Ms. Dona Maria Kuriakose secured second prize for Case Analysis. Loyola bagged overall championship trophy for the fest.
